On The Ground Your Maker Lies

“View Him prostrate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies;
On the bloody tree behold Him;
Sinner, will this not suffice?”

I want to be soaked in this good news, this gospel. It is my only hope, comfort and strength. That my Maker would lie prostrate on the ground in agony as a man, weak and helpless, and ask for the cruel cup to pass. But in obedience to the Father, filled with love for us, He rescued us. He drank to the dregs the awfulness of it all. All so He could be one with us and we one with Him.

I feel this love, in all its reality. I know by faith that He is interceding in heaven for us with His blood. I know that we have a High Priest, and a Friend, that identified with us in the most intimate of ways in order that we might be adopted into His family.

Could any message be more important? May I become more overpowered by His grace every day, and more filled by His Spirit to know the height and depth of His love.

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and pow’r.

Refrain:
I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
Oh, there are ten thousand charms.

Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.

Come, ye weary, heavy-laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all.

View Him prostrate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies;
On the bloody tree behold Him;
Sinner, will this not suffice?

Lo! th’ incarnate God ascended,
Pleads the merit of His blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.

Let not conscience make you linger,
Not of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to feel your need of Him.
